SustainMantra, a consultancy provider, had partnered with a pan-India NGO that worked on mid-day meal schemes. The NGO wanted to assess their current sustainability by analysing their kitchens. They wanted us to formulate a sustainability policy in order to define the ESG goals. The following deliverables were decided upon: 1. Sustainability assessment questionnaire, to be filled out by each of their kitchens, through which we assessed the current ESG habits of every kitchen. 2. Market research report, to have a overview of the market we were dealing with. 3. Feasibility analysis of the ESG practices on various parameters through weighted average method. 4. Final Recommendations about the ESG practices focusing on water and energy under Environment reporting, safety and training of employees under social reporting
We started conducting preliminary research internally and curated a resource bank containing links that we referred to throughout the project. For the first vertical, we created two sustainability assessment questionnaires for the client, one for the management level and the other at the kitchen level. We also designed a handbook describing the KPIs of ESG and different internationally used frameworks like GRI, CDP, and CDSB. We prepared a market research report for the second vertical. The client’s focus was on ESG practices undertaken by NGOs but we emphasized on widening the scope. Thereby, we prepared a report outlining ESG practices done by NGOs and organizations in the FMCG and F&B sectors. We sub-categorised the profit making companies into two groups, one with the organizations that served the food hot and the other with packaged items. This led to a comprehensive report with 3 categories with each one having a variety of E, S and G practices segmented into KPIs. The final lap of the project was providing recommendations for the short-, medium-, and long-term sustainability policies. For this, we curated a scoring framework that comprised discrete parameters on which the ESG practices were rated. We also helped the client with a contents list for their policy.
