The Washing Machine Project is a grassroots social enterprise based in the U.K. aiming to alleviate the burden of handwashing clothes and empower women. With the vision to create a world-leading organisation by providing displaced and low-income communities with an accessible, off-grid washing solution, the washing machine project approached us seeking advice in the following domains: 1. Conduct a market research on the off-grid washing machines which included competitor benchmarking 2. Devise a go-to-market strategy for the most efficient and impactful distriubution of it’s off-grid washing machine, Divyas. 3. Execute a feasibility analysis on the most probable distribution channels To summarize, the client's challenge was to conduct market research, analyze competitors, and create a commercialization plan for an off-grid washing machine product.
The client wanted help with analysing the market for off-grid washing machines and their competitors, and establishing a go-to-market strategy. We identified five distribution channels, and after analysis, distribution through partners, E-commerce, and collaboration with laundromats were shortlisted. We then compared the channels based on cost, revenue, profit margins, total addressable market, and competitive landscape. Primary and secondary research was conducted to collect data on competitors and benchmark them based on price, target audience, dimensions, speed, load, type, weight, customer reviews, after-sales services, and other factors. A separate profile was created for each competitor based on the gathered information, and the analysis was divided into five sub-phases which included identification of competitors, data collection through secondary sources, data collection through primary research, analysis of collected data, and competitive benchmarking. Data on these factors was collected through primary and secondary research, and a separate profile was created for each competitor based on all the information gathered. Finally, a competitive benchmarking report based on the key factors mentioned above was prepared.
We analyzed Divya's competition and provided recommendations based on the position and competitive advantages of other market players. By analyzing the distribution channels, we identified the ideal channel while considering the costs, reach, and target market before we made our recommendation. Following our advice, the cclient was able to achieve its goal of distributing 7500 machines and impacting 100,000 lives by 2030.
